CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA

AKSHAY KUMAR – CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA

Besides Aamir Khan, it was the turn of another Bollywood Star, who was in Delhi to promote his film “CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA”.

Akshay Kumar was in the old DELHI city in Chandni Chowk, where he carried the 'FLAME OF HOPE', the relay torch for the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games.
It may be noted that the “FLAME OF HOPE”, was lit on Nov.12, 2008 in Athens, Greece, with the help Sun’s rays.
The flame is carried by the members of the global law enforcement community and Special Olympics athletes and covers a distance of 60,000 Kms spreading across 5 continents. Around 12,000 people throughout the world are expected to participate in this “Special Olympics”, which is a source of inspiration and encouragement to all people with intellectual disabilities.

Akshay himself ran with the torch for 2 kms thru’ Chandni Chowk, where he has spent his earlier childhood days. The torch then proceeded to New Delhi, where 150 Special Olympics athletes, law enforcement officers and residents joined him, as part of the Global Law Enforcement Torch Run - a signature event honouring the Special Olympics movement.
Akshay Kumar is the brand ambassador for this event that is being organised prior to the world games set to be held in Boise, Idaho, US, Feb. 2-13, 2009.

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit flagged off the event at the Red Fort.

Akshay had words of praise for young athlete Achint Babbar, who was a winner in the swimming category of the “Special Olympics World Winter Games 2008”. Achint and his mother were so much excited, specially Achint to have met his favourite star.
